“Tops on the tacos roster are the marinated pork cooked on a spit (ask for grilled pineapple on the side) and the gently braised beef tongue, both of which come tucked into lightly griddled corn tortillas. The torta side of the menu is best represented by a two-hander that brings together charbroiled steak, beans, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayo – it’s big enough to share. To drink, there’s horchata, a sweet rice-and-cinnamon refresher, which is made in-house and is exceptional.” – Cheap Eats honors 2015
“With fresh food that is made from scratch daily – and delicious salsas and marinades that tantalize the taste buds – Tortacos is a family-owned eatery that serves up delicious dishes to local diners. From the menu, you have the difficult choice between chicken, pork, tender steaks, and – for the more adventurous – braised beef tongue. With fair prices and big flavors, this eatery should be on your list if you are travelling to Gaithersburg.”
“A tidy open kitchen lets diners in on the action of a hot grill. Tongue, steak, chicken and pork (sweet from its pineapple marinade) are served on two-ply corn tortillas that can be accessorized with a bonanza of fresh toppings from the help-yourself condiment cart.Tortacos is a hybrid shop; there are tortas, or sandwiches on the menu, too.”
“Best tacos outside Mexico! The tacos al pastor are amazing – seasoned and marinated meat pressed into a round on a rotisserie, sliced, and served as ordered. The guacamole is freshly made. The owners and staff are always friendly, and they ensure that everyone is happy.” – Terry
“The corn tortillas, two per taco, were soft and flavorful. The portions of meat overflowed the tortillas – about two-times as much meat as I have received at other places. I had the pork, chicken and beef and liked all three. The first time a 3 taco dish filled me up!” – Brian C
I think we can all agree that there are some things in life that are better than others – like TACOS. The only question is: Where should you go to get the ultimate best one? We asked Yelp for the most popular places to get tacos in every state – which they measured using an algorithm that (compiled) the number of reviews plus the star rating for every business on Yelp. – September 2016
“The owners of Tortacos came to D.C. from California and were shocked by the lack of good Mexican food in the nation’s capital. They decided it was time that those inside and outside the Beltway had a taste of the Golden State. Tortacos serves masterful al pastor, sweet and slightly tart from pineapple marinade, while also charred from the spit with deep, earthy chile flavors. The chips were exceptional, thick and intensely crunchy with large crystals of salt. The horchata was aromatic and slightly sweet, yet refreshing — a difficult balance to achieve.”
